The tight, slicked back bun is all the rage right now! It’s the perfect excuse to pull your hair back on days when you’re too lazy to wash it.
I have thick and often frizzy hair, so it took my awhile to find a product that helped keep all of my flyaways & baby hairs down. But I eventually found the “magic stick” — a super affordable wax stick made by Bed Head (linked here). It’s essentially a much cheaper version of the product Hailey Bieber claims to use on her hair.
I’m not great at achieving new hair styles. I tend to stick with what I know: curled, straight, or pony tail. But this stick made trying out the slicked back look very easy! The other important step is to have a good comb to get all your hairs going in the right direction. I used a short comb with thick bristles, similar to a teasing brush. I linked an affordable one here.
Start off with a pony tail. It can be a little messy, just using your hands to pull the hair back. Then use the short comb to make sure all of your hair is laying flat and collect it all in one hand. Now you can go in with the wax stick. I use it mainly around my part and to hold the little hairs down behind my ears. I also use it at the base of my neck to hold those little hairs up.
I’ve learned that it’s easier to secure the pony tail first, and then use another rubber band to secure the hair wrapped around in a bun. I hope this helps show you that you can achieve the “cool girl hairstyle” — even if you aren’t too adventurous with your hair.
