If you haven’t noticed, bleach-dyed clothes are in again! But often times when you see graphic tees that are bleach dyed, the unique pattern makes the clothes more expensive. For example, this jean jacket is almost $100 at Urban Outfitters. And this simple black shirt is $40.
So my sister and I made the look for less! Thank you to Walmart for having the perfect basic shirts and sweats for this fun project. They were less than $10 each.
Here’s how you can try it too:
Pick the spot on the piece of clothing where you want the circle of dye to fan out. It’s easy to use a fork to twirl the fabric in that spot. Keep twisting until all of the fabric is in a swirl.
Use rubber bands to secure the clothing and keep it in this spiral. Place them around it like the cuts of a slice of pizza. This will be important later!
Put the spirals in an area where the bleach won’t ruin anything (We did this part in the shower).
Squirt a bottle of half bleach and half water on every other “pizza slice” of the fabric. Turn the spiral it over and do the same thing on the other side.
Now sit back, enjoy a glass of wine, and wait about an hour.
Take the rubber bands off and unwrap your clothes. Rinse them with cold water and throw them in the washing machine to make sure the bleach sets. Once the clothes are dry, you have a cool “new” outfit to show off!
